The Purpose Of Mathematics At The HIGH SCHOOL Level In Indonesia


Mathematics is the science underlying the development of universal modern technology, has an important role in various disciplines and develop the power of human thought. The rapid development in the field of information and communication technology today be grounded by the development of mathematics in the field of number theory, algebra, analysis, theory of chances and discrete mathematics. To master and develop technologies in the future required a strong mastery of mathematics since early childhood.

Mathematics needs to be given to all students ranging from elementary school to equip learners with the ability to think logically, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative, as well as the ability to cooperate. Competence is needed so that learners can have the ability to acquire, manage, and exploit information to survive in the ever-changing, uncertain, and competitive.

Each activity must have a goal, the goal of teaching people or people learn. The purpose of mathematics should be understood together either by teachers or learners. The same understanding of the purpose, will positively impact against the teachers in teaching lessons. While the students will be more motivated in learning and practicing and practicing if the purpose of the lesson is also well understood.

Mathematics in Indonesia as the Government through Decree, aiming to BSNP learners have the ability as follows:
  1. Understand the concepts of mathematics, the description of antarkonsep and apply concepts or algorithms, as a flexible, accurate, efficient, and precise, in solving the problem;
  2. use the reasoning on the pattern and nature, conducted a mathematical manipulation in making generalizations, compile evidence, or explain the idea and mathematical statement
  3. solve problems that include the ability to understand problems, design a model mathematics, completing the models and interpret the solution obtained
  4. Communicating the idea with symbols, tables, diagrams, or other media to clarify the situation or problem
  5. Have the attitude of valuing the usability of mathematics in life, i.e. have the curiosity, attention, and interest in learning mathematics, as well as the attitude of the resilient and confident in problem solving.
